D'Ana E. Johnson is Partner Emeritus in the Washington, D.C. office. She spent over thirty-five (35) years litigating complex cases in the areas of general negligence, including medical malpractice, construction and premises and also products liability as well as employment, including discrimination in the workplace and contractual disputes involving executive compensation. D'Ana has been recognized as a Top Rated Lawyer in Washington, D.C. by Lexis Nexis Martindale-Hubbell.
D'Ana defended claims involving such varied products as mechanized mail-mobiles, air handling units, chillers, elevators, escalators, soft ice cream makers, fire extinguishers, blood cleaning equipment, multi-trailer trucks, scaffolding systems and vaccines. She also defended medical professionals against claims of medical negligence including failure to diagnose or properly treat severe medical conditions such as stroke, respiratory failure, MRSA, bowel perforation, and fetal distress; improper fetal monitoring, improper treatment of psychiatric conditions resulting in death, failure to prevent development of pressure sores, and against other claims for injury and wrongful death. Through this experience, she has worked closely with engineers, medical specialists, forensic economists and various other experts in a variety of scientific fields.
During her career D'Ana was trial counsel in hundreds of cases in the state and federal courts of Maryland and also in the District of Columbia. She has also argued appeals in the state and federal courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia. In 1998 she was selected by her colleagues of the District of Columbia Defense Lawyers Association as its Defense Lawyer of the Year. She is “AV” rated by her peers.
D’Ana has taught numerous seminars in trial techniques and tactics. She was a faculty member of the International Association Defense Counsel Trial Academy. As a member of DRI she has written and spoken on many aspects of trial advocacy. She has annually participated as a faculty member at the Harvard University Winter Trial Advocacy Workshop and also at the National Institutes of Trial Advocacy program hosted at Georgetown University Law Center. She chairs the Firm’s In-House CLE Program. Ms. Johnson has also served as a mediator in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and in the D. C. Superior Court.
D’Ana is a graduate of Morgan State University and the Georgetown University Law Center.
