Michael D. Chefitz is a Partner in the Firm’s Boston office, and is the firm's General Counsel. He has over twenty-five years of experience litigating matters in the areas of insurance coverage, products liability, asbestos, claims defense, professional liability, construction, employment discrimination, extra-contractual liability, complex commercial disputes and contracts. Mr. Chefitz has tried several cases in the state and federal courts and has argued several appeals.
Mr. Chefitz has served as panel approved coverage counsel on a national basis for several insurance carriers. His coverage experience includes litigating and handling coverage matters in a majority of the jurisdictions across the country, as well as coverage matters involving general liability, professional liability, construction, environmental, products, marine, first party property and life insurance claims.
Mr. Chefitz's products and asbestos experience includes serving as a national coordinating counsel and national settlement counsel for a Fortune 500 company and the representation of several smaller companies for many years. He has also handled several carbon monoxide claims and a myriad of claims involving various products.
Mr. Chefitz speaks regularly in the areas of insurance coverage and products liability. He has served on the board of the Massachusetts Defense Lawyers Association for and has taught undergraduate business law courses at Northeastern University for many years. Mr. Chefitz serves as Vice President and a member of the Board of Trustees for the Phoenix School in Salem, Massachusetts.
Mr. Chefitz is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. He has been admitted on a pro hac basis in numerous courts across the country. In 1981, he graduated from Brandeis University (magnum cum laude with departmental honors) and received his J.D. degree (cum laude) from Boston University School of Law in 1984.
Mr. Chefitz's commercial and contracts experience includes RICO claims, copyright and patent infringement, unfair practice claims, complex landlord tenant and premises matters, wrongful termination, covenants not to compete and numerous other business disputes.
