Barry is a Founding Partner of the firm and was the firm’s Managing Partner for over 20 years.  Barry was born in Brooklyn, New York and made Washington, DC his home after he graduated from the Antioch School of Law and completed a Judicial Clerkship with Judge Frederik H. Weisberg of the D.C. Superior Court. Barry has defended corporations in national and local litigation involving matters ranging from serious professional liability claims to substantial mass tort claims.  Barry has served as lead counsel in many notable matters, including the “Hot Coffee” case, the DC Yellow Line mass transit incident, food borne illness outbreaks, and a diverse range of medical malpractice and product liability cases. 

Barry has served as a mediator or arbitrator since 1986 for the District of Columbia Superior Court, the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, the United States District Court for the District of Columbia and the Maryland Alternative Dispute Resolution Health Claims Board. 

He has lectured and presented to lawyers, doctors, food industry leaders, and insurance companies on the defense of claims and on various litigation techniques. He has lectured at Rutgers University Medical School (formerly the University Medical and Dental School of New Jersey), the American Psychoanalytical Association, The Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the Virginia Defense Lawyers Association, the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology, the Grocery Manufacturer Association’s Annual Litigation Conference and client sponsored litigation conferences.

Notable Matters

  • Defended a major metropolitan transit agency in mass tort event resulting in over 200 claims.
  • Defended a national dialysis provider against claims that clinic water systems suffered from inadequate disinfection.
  • Liebeck v. McDonald’s Restaurants, et al. (the “Hot Coffee” case).
  • United States of America v. Michael F. Zanakis.
